A lot of new restaurants are rising everywhere and several places have already been tagged as a food trip destination. One of which is BGC. I live only a few mins away from this place so it is really accessible for me. I've always been on the look-out for new places to try and have been doing a pretty good job keeping up with the growing list until I lost it. There are just too many places to try right now - from different flavours around the world to sweet tooth cravings to those healthy ones - name it, you'll find it there. It's just too many that I do not know where to start/continue my quest! But thanksnto good friends who have the same passion and who are very much willing to join me as I cross these off my list. ;)
First stop was at Va Bene, an Italian restaurant located inside Central Square in Bonifacio High Street Central. We were initially discussing where to go and was planning to try Pink's but thought that it wouldn't be a good idea on a Payday Friday.
I was glad we went to Va Bene for a number of reasons: 1) the place was not packed and had enough seats to accommodate us, 2) we were able to choose the spot we want to be seated, 3) good service from all the staffs and 4) GOOD FOOD. It's not as expensive as any other Italian restaurants but the quality is just the same. The pasta dishes were served al dente just the way we liked it!!!
I liked the dish mainly because of the al dente pasta. The Gorgonzola Cheese Sauce was a bit too strong for me but I still enjoyed the dish. I love cheese so it wouldn't matter if the taste is too strong or not.
Twelve hours braised lamb shanks, Italian sausage, semi-dried tomatoes and black olives... This is what this Pappardelle is made of!!! It's really so good, the al dente pasta with the super soft shanks just hits the spot everytime!!! It could've been a better dish if it was a little more spicy but you can always add chili flakes to add that extra kick! ;) I was actuallyin a hurry to eat when I took this shot that's why I got a blurry one. Lol
This square pizza is something I would order again. The bread was super soft and loaded with flavours. There's really nothing much going on, it was just Taleggio Cheese, ricotta, mushrooms, truffle pesto and parma ham. Simple as it may sound, everything combined just created the perfect flavor for this pizza.
Now that's a very filling dinner. Let's talk about our next stop, FREEZER BURN.
Freezer Burn is the newest ice cream place and has the weirdest flavor that you can ever think of an ice cream - Ketchup and Mayo ice cream. It is interesting and scary at the same time, I just can't imagine.... KETCHUP AND MAYO??? Ice cream??? Really???
I got really curious of how the Ketchup and Mayo ice cream would taste so I asked the lady to give me that for my free taste. It tasted real ketchup and mayo combined, but it was cold (duh) and it melts in your mouth (duh). It was a bit sour if I remembered correctly. I was considering it at first but then decided to get another combo since I wasnt sure if I could stand the taste of Ketchup and Mayo. HAHAHA! I think it will be better paired with fries, which they really offer, but will never be able to try (maybe next time)!
I personally love anything with mint - coffee, cake, chocolate, ice cream... Anything. So when I saw this on the menu, my heart skipped a beat and I went for it.
Just like any other mint ice cream, this did not disappoint. It had lots of chocolate chunks that made it more interesting!!! It also came with cotton candy and 5 bite brownies on the side. The brownies was good and chewy but I got a little umay after a few more bites. It was a little too chocolatey for me. It melts in your mouth but it was also too sweet after a few more bites.
Chocolate Ice Cream + Churros is the most basic choice amongst everything on their Composed Dessert menu. It's almost a no-brainer choice if you'd ask. But mind you, this combo blew my mind off. The chocolate ice cream has the sweetness that I'm looking for in a chocolate ice cream... It was bittersweet. It went well with the "melts in your mouth" churros that came with it. It was also an advantage that the churros was freshly done and served hot with the ice cream that made it even better and extraordinary. :p
Browned Butterpecan Ice cream with Peanutbutter waffleliege and banana. This one has all the different textures combined. I remembered liking the ice cream but wasn't able to try the waffle because it was somewhat camouflaging with the banana :|
I'm not a big fan of ice cream so the most basic choice would always be the one to win my heart. The next time I head here, I'd probably just get a scoop of the Mint stracciatella or the chocolate ice cream! Or maybe, just maybe, the Ketchup and Mayo ice cream. ?
Until the next adventure..... ☺️
